Different axes reaching the same concern

They get lumped together as 'lifting', but the force used and the layer reached differ. Here are the three most often compared side by side in consultation, lined up by principle and depth.

HIFU lifting — LinearZ

Ultrasound is focused to a point to create thermal coagulation down to the SMAS fascia. LinearZ arranges those focal points as a line rather than a dot, laying them evenly across a wide area. Of the three, it covers the deepest layer.

Radiofrequency lifting — XERF

Radiofrequency current meets tissue resistance and generates heat. Rather than points, it warms the dermis broadly to contract collagen immediately and then lets new collagen build.

Thread lifting — Jamber

Not heat but physical support. Spring-shaped threads act as a scaffold that fills and holds up nasolabial folds and hollowing at the sides of the cheek from within, sustaining that position for the 6-8 months over which the PDO is absorbed.

This is a difference of role, not of rank. Supporting a hollow is what threads do, warming the dermis broadly is what XERF does, and LinearZ takes the deep layer. More than one is sometimes needed together, so we work out in consultation which axis comes first.

How it works — even lines, layered depth

Unlike conventional HIFU that delivers energy in dot patterns, LinearZ irradiates energy in linear patterns. This creates uniform thermal coagulation points across wider areas for more natural and comprehensive lifting effects.

LinearZ uses cartridges at various depths (4.5mm, 3.0mm, 1.5mm) to deliver multi-layered energy from the SMAS fascia layer to the dermal layer.

How a session goes

    Consultation and assessment

    We look at facial structure and the degree of sagging to decide which depth and how many shots. If lost volume or skin quality matters more than sagging in your case, we say so.

    Cleansing and preparation

    You cleanse the area yourself beforehand, then ultrasound gel is applied and we begin. Numbing cream is usually not used, but if you are concerned about pain we apply it for 15-20 minutes first. Cooling settles the skin and energy is raised in stages, so pain stays low.

    Linear delivery by cartridge

    We deliver in lines, changing cartridges by area and goal. In most cases 4.5mm and 3.0mm are used, and for the jawline and double chin where the fat layer is thick we mainly use 4.5mm. The whole session takes 10-20 minutes.

    Finishing and follow-up

    Many people feel a tightening right after, and redness usually settles within the same day. Change from collagen renewal appears over 2-3 months, and how much you feel it varies between people. We suggest about three sessions at 2-3 month intervals to begin with, then maintenance roughly once every 6 months.

Aftercare & precautions

  • Temporary redness and warmth may occur immediately after treatment; usually subsides the same day.
  • Avoid hot water for cleansing on the day of treatment; use lukewarm water.
  • Adequate moisturizing and sun protection are essential.
  • Avoid saunas and high-temperature environments for 1 week after treatment.
  • If there is inflammation or infection at the treatment area, we proceed after it has settled.
  • After filler, threads or Botox, we advise waiting 1-2 months before treatment.
  • Metal or implants in the body do not affect this treatment.
  • We generally do not recommend it during pregnancy.

The procedure takes about 10-20 minutes, pain is relatively low, and there is almost no downtime. An immediate tightening sensation appears right after, with further improvement from collagen regeneration over 2-3 months (individual variation applies).

On the day of treatment, cleanse with lukewarm water instead of hot water, and moisturize and use sun protection well. Avoid high-heat environments such as saunas and jjimjilbang for one week after treatment.

It is generally a safe treatment, so most people can proceed right away without special preparation. If there is inflammation or infection at the treatment site, however, we wait until it settles. If you have had filler, thread lifting, or Botox, we recommend waiting 1-2 months. Metal or implants in the body do not affect LinearZ. During pregnancy we prefer not to recommend it.

These are not competing treatments — they differ in the layer they reach and in principle. LinearZ links focused ultrasound heat in lines down to the SMAS fascia, while XERF uses radiofrequency heat to warm the dermis broadly and contract collagen. They in fact pair well, and we recommend combining them: on the same day, LinearZ first, then XERF.

LinearZ works on tissue with heat; thread lifting supports tissue physically with threads. If the goal is to fill a hollow that has dropped, threads may be the better fit. Neither is superior — they address different axes of concern, and recovery and how it feels differ too, so we sort out which applies in consultation first.
